The Gift House is a small salvage or “free-cycle” operation on the grounds of the Orleans Transfer Station. The purpose of the Gift House is to allow residents an orderly and clean place to leave acceptable items that could be reused or repurposed by fellow residents and to save the town solid waste costs. It is entirely volunteer-run. You must have a current Transfer Station sticker to visit.

Rules of Operation

  • All donations must be clean, in working order, and reviewed by a volunteer on duty before you leave them. No drop-offs when the Gift House is closed.
  • Certain items may be subject to Transfer Station fees.
  • Parking is limited to 30 minutes. You may need to wait for a spot. Maximum of 2 cars may wait at designated stop sign.
  • Unacceptable items must be taken to designated Transfer Station bins — and not the responsibility of Gift House volunteers.

Volunteering

Are you interested in volunteering at the Gift House? Duties include receiving items as they are dropped off, as well as culling and organizing. Please call (508-255-5362) or email (georgeannebarnes@gmail.com) George-Anne Barnes to volunteer.

Volunteers are coordinated by Lydia Mann (gifthousescheduling@gmail.com), with help from other volunteers, and work two-hour shifts with two or three other workers. We expect most volunteers will need coverage for some shifts throughout the summer, and have a robust system in place to facilitate that.
